Introduction

Easy Starter allows quick and easy commissioning and maintenance of Lenze devices. Easy starter works with both the 9300 and the 8400 (batch 10 on) series of drives.

In the case of comPOUND all three drives can be communicated with over the CAN network with the one connection.

 

Prerequisites

  • Laptop with Easy Starter and the required packages installed. Easy Starter is available from the latest comPOUND release disc or the Lenze website.

For comPOUNDs with a PCI - CAN card installed (batch 10 on) or for monitoring drive parameters while comPOUND is running:

  • USB  CAN adaptor and CAN connection cable

1. Hardware connection

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL EASY STARTER SOFTWARE ON THE COMPOUND PC

INSTALL EASY STARTER AND THE REQUIRED PACKAGES BEFORE CONNECTING HARDWARE

1.1 Method 1:Existing USB-CAN adaptor

As you are using the existing USB - CAN adaptor you won’t have the ability to run the comPOUND software while connected.

1.2 Method 2:Additional USB-CAN adaptor

This is useful for monitoring drive parameters in Easy Starter while comPOUND is running. Connect using an additional USB - CAN adaptor and the CAN connection cable plugged into one of the servo drives (any one).

1.3 Method 3:USB-CAN adaptor (PCI-CAN card installed)

The same as method 2 but the comPOUND PC has a PCI - CAN card installed (batch 10 on).

2. Connecting to the CAN network

  1. Close the comPOUND software on the comPOUND PC. After you have installed Easy Starter and the required packages, connect your laptop using either of the methods described in the previous section. The USB - CAN adaptor drivers should be installed automatically by Windows.
  2. Open Easy Starter. The Add devices dialog pops up (otherwise click Add devices or press Ctrl +). Select USB - CAN via adaptor EMF2177IB, then click Configure.

The System Bus Configuration Tool opens. Select PC system bus adaptor 2177, right-click > activate.

  1. Select the Settings tab
  2. Set the Baud rate to 1000 kBaud sand the parameter channel to 1

Switch back to the Common tab and click Communication Diagnostics

Click Yes on the warning asking if the bus should be scanned now.

Easy Starter should find the bus devices and list the node ID’s in the Device State window.

Exit the System Bus Configuration Tool. It should remember your settings for the future.

Switch back to Easy Starter and click Insert on the Add devices dialog box.

The left hand window should populate with devices. 002  Turntable, 003  Odd, 004  Even.

3. Writing parameter set to drive

  1. Select the drive you want to send the parameter set to in the left hand window
  2. Click ‘Download parameter set from file to device’ or press F5
  3. Browse to the parameter set you want to send and click Start
  4. Finally click ‘Save parameter set within device’ or press F6. Look for message ‘Parameter set saved’ in green at bottom of window.

 

4. Saving parameter set from drive

  1. Select the drive you want to get the parameter set from in the left hand window
  2. Click ‘Upload parameter set from device and save into file’  or press F7
  3. Easy starter will read the parameter set from the selected drive. Click Save and select All in the options modal window
  4. Browse to the save location. Click close.

5. Adjusting drive parameters

  1. Select the drive you want to alter a parameter for in the left hand window
  2. Select the All Parameters tab
  3. Open the Codelist folder for 9300 drives or Parameter list folder for 8400 drives from the list, this will display a list of all parameter codes in the right hand column

You can use the search function (binoculars) or simply scroll to find the parameter you want to change

TIP: You can drag and drop any parameter from the list into any one of the monitor slots at the bottom of the screen.

  1. Double click the parameter you want to change in the value column and enter the new value, then press Enter (otherwise value will not update). Look for the message ‘Parameter set has changed’ in orange at the bottom of the window
  2. Click ‘Save parameter set within device’ or press F6. Save parameter set dialog box pops up. Look for message ‘Parameter set saved’ in green at bottom of window.

 

6. Monitoring drive parameters

You will need to be connected using method 2 or method 3 for this to work. The comPOUND software on the comPOUND PC is used to control the comPOUND while monitoring is carried out in Easy Starter on the laptop.

  1. Select the drive you want to monitor in the left hand window
  2. Select the Trend tab

  1. The graph is pre-populated with 4 parameters, remove these by clicking the cross icon next to each one.
  2. Click the edit icon (pencil) or double click the line to open the Insert Channel dialog box.

Untick ‘in menu groups’ to show the full list of parameters which you can also filter

Select the parameter you want to monitor and click Insert

Back at the Trend tab click start monitoring. Now you can run comPOUND from the comPOUND PC and monitor the drives.
